going to picnic

ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP - - Frances Strickland, wife of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ted Strickland, will speak at a free Women Democrats picnic Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Lakeshore Park.

ACWD President Peggy Wilkinson said the picnic is not a fund-raiser, just a chance for Democrats to get together and get excited about the upcoming election.

"We want to bring as many Dems together as possible," she said. "This is such an important election, and we want to bring more people into the party. Not every political event has to be a fund-raiser," she said.

"We are going to have food, fun, prizes and, of course, candidates," she said.

Congressional candidate Lew Katz; State Rep. L. George Distel, D-Conneaut; Mary Jane Trapp, 11th district Court of Appeals; Judge Robert Wynn, Judge Tom Harris, county auditor candidate Roger Corlett; and candidate for Ashtabula County commissioner Dan Claypool will attend the picnic to meet voters.
