• A Plymouth Township resident reported a man walking along Jefferson Road, “casing houses,” on Christmas Day, according to a report from the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department.
The 18-year-old suspect, when asked his name, provided the deputy with a false name and the deputy, knowing the suspect’s true identity from a previous contact, arrested him on falsification.
It was later determined that the man was wanted on a warrant from the Mentor City Police Department. The man was transported to Perry, where the department was to take custody, however, the officer from Mentor refused to accept the suspect because he was “mildly intoxicated.”
The man was returned to his residence and a summons issued for his court appearance.
• A caller reported seeing a body being dragged from a mobile home in a Harpersfield Township mobile home park on Thursday.
The deputy who responded to the call found the male resident on the living room floor, highly intoxicated and in a puddle of vomit. The man had been celebrating his birthday away from home, where he was “dropped off” by friends. He was singing “Happy Birthday” to himself as the deputy cleared the scene.
• A deputy was called to an Ashtabula Township gas station to investigate the theft of a $3 lunch meat sandwich. The thief, caught on surveillance camera, did pay for the chips that went with the sandwich.
