WEST SPRINGFIELD, Pa. —
Merl Arthur Forbes Sr., age 87, of West Springfield, Pa., died after a long illness at his home on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012.
Merl was born in Albion, Pa. on June 22, 1924, the son of the late Harry and Mary (Yarrington) Forbes.
He worked many years for Lewis Auto Wrecking, Colucci Wrecking Yard and G & H Motors Salvage Co. Merle enjoyed working on wood crafts and was very devoted to his kids and his many grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Merle was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Forbes in 1991; an infant daughter; and a sister, Helen Hale.
He is survived by six daughters, Carol Fetterman of Del Rio, Texas, Bonnie Kreider of Conneaut, Ohio, Mary Hopkins of Albermarl, N.C., Wilma Greer of Pierpont, Ohio, Joyce Beatty of Ashtabula, Ohio and Karen Hewitt of West Springfield, Pa.; three sons, Merl Forbes Jr. of Austinburg, Ohio, Russell Forbes of Ashtabula, Ohio and Larry Forbes of Andover, Ohio; a sister, Marian Pomeroy of Cranesville, Pa.; 33 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren and six great-great-granchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at JEAN EVANS THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME, 11883 Main St., East Springfield, Pa. on Sunday, Feb. 12th, from 2 p.m. until the time of the Service at 4 p.m., with Pastor Bob Klingler, of West Springfield United Church, officiating. Burial will be in Springfield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family payable to the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 235, East Springfield, Pa. 16411.
