JEFFERSON — William Vincent Oeffner, age 97, of St. Rt. 46 North, died peacefully Sunday evening, Jan. 13, 2013, at his home.
Born May 25, 1915, in Jefferson, Ohio, he was the son of the late William and Lucy (Huffman) Oeffner. William and Estelle (Billman) Oeffner were married at the First Baptist Church in Jefferson, on July 5, 1942. They celebrated 64 years of marriage prior to her death on Nov. 16, 2006.
When William was young, he worked in the family hardware business in Jefferson. He also worked for a couple years at an A & P grocery store in Wisconsin, where he would go on to meet his wife. During W.W.II, he worked in Warren, Ohio, building parts for torpedoes. William worked 40 years for Yoder Bros. He and Estelle also owned and operated Oeffner’s Floral Shop and Greenhouses in Jefferson for many years, until retirement.
A life long member of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson, he enjoyed stamp collecting, photography, bird watching, stamp club, gardening and was an avid reader of the Bible and other inspirational books.
He is survived by his four sons, John L. (Grace) Oeffner of Sheffield Township, James D. Oeffner of Jefferson, William G. (Crystal) Oeffner of Akron and Kenneth F. (Marcia) Oeffner of Clinton, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Estelle; a sister, Marie (Oeffner) Campbell; and brothers, Clyde and Sherman Oeffner.
No services are going to be announced at this time. Burial will take place in Oakdale Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date to Celebrate his Life.
