Joseph F. Presciano

ASHTABULA — Joseph Francis Presciano, age 90, passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Silver Sands II.

He was born April 4, 1922, the son of Joseph and Mariannina (Chiacchiero) Presciano Sr. and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident, graduating from Ashtabula High School in 1940. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

Prior to his retirement, he worked 44 years as a lineman for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company.

Joe was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and St. Joseph Mission Church, Our Lady of Miracles where he was very involved with MDM activities. He loved sports and participated in them his whole life, even while in the military. He coached Ashtabula Little League, Senior League, and Ashtabula Rubber Company sponsored American Legion baseball for many years. A lover of all local sports and athletic activities, he was a local high  school basketball official for many years as well.

He enjoyed attending Ashtabula City Council meetings, genealogy, woodworking and furniture refinishing, and was a former member of the Ashtabula Elks #208.

His survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary (Ferritto) Presciano, whom he married April 30, 1948; two daughters, Debra LaPierre and her husband, James of Geneva and Kathy Presciano and her husband, Paul Vincent, of Ashtabula; Paul’s children and grandchildren; and many nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael, Robert and James Presciano; three sisters, Carmella Zullo, Adeline Peterangelo and Mary DiMare; and his parents.

A Calling Hour will be held at St. Joseph Church, 3330 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon, Wednesday, Jan. 2nd, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12 Noon. The Rev. Raymond Thomas and Fr. Philip Miller will concelebrate. Full Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion, Dewey-Howlett Post #103. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashtabula.

As an alternative to flowers and to commemorate Joe’s love of sports, contributions in his memory may be made to the Ashtabula Little League, P.O. Box 2244, Ashtabula, Ohio 44005-2244.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the late Dr. Anil Patel and Staff, Dr. Amanda Vest, CCF Cardiologist and staff, Dr. John Stephens, ACMC and CCF Cardiologist and staff, Personal Home Health Care Staff, Continuous Care/Extended Care Nurses of Hospice of the Western Reserve – Pat, Dianna, and Bonnie, and the staff at Silver Sands II.
