SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP —
Jim “Grandpa Jimmy” Prickett, age 81, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born Nov. 30, 1930, in Anderson, Ind., Jim moved to Saybrook Township, Ohio, at the age of 3, where he resided for the rest of his life except for 3 years in the U.S. Navy. He married the love of his life, Janice (Kaiser) on June 10, 1950. They raised two children together and enjoyed a love and friendship that endured for 57 years until Janice's death in December of 2007.
Retired from the Post Office, Jim especially loved his last years at the Post Office as a rural route carrier.
Jim had many interests and hobbies throughout his life including bowling, church softball, coaching Little League, building and remodeling houses, stained glass, and serving God in so many ways at Saybrook United Methodist Church.
Above all, Jim was a man of faith who loved his Lord.
Jim leaves behind his children, Carolyn (Michael) Kierstead of Sandusky and Michael (Joanne) Prickett of Ashtabula; one granddaughter, Carly (Matt) Rogers of Sandusky; and a constant joy, his great-granddaughter, Annaliese Rogers. He is also survived by a sister, Juanita (Harry) Hammond; a brother, David (Barbara) Kiphart; numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews; and his Saybrook UMC family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Larry; and his wife, Janice.
Calling Hours will be held Saturday, June 2nd from 9 to 10 a.m. at Saybrook United Methodist Church, 7900 S. Depot Road, Ashtabula, Ohio, followed by a Memorial Service at 10 a.m. officiated by the Rev. Donna van Trees and the Rev. Jeff Stoll. A Graveside Service will immediately follow the service at Saybrook Cemetery.
