ASHTABULA —
The final chapter in the life of Winchell Tyrone Wells transitioned in peace on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012.
Born Dec. 22, 1972, in Ashtabula, Ohio, he was the son of the late Rev. Dr. Sam Wells Jr. and Johnnie (Ashford) Wells. Winchell was a lifelong Ashtabula resident.
Winchell accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized by his father, the Rev. Sam Wells Jr. on Dec. 3, 1978 at People’s Missionary Baptist Church. He had been a member of the Baptist Training Union, Sunday School, Junior Choir, Youth Choir and Junior Usher Board.
He attended Station Elementary School, West Junior High School and received his General Education Development Diploma on June 24, 2005. He loved playing football, fishing with family and writing.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Johnnie Wells of Ashtabula; two sisters, Amelia Ann Stewart of Columbus and Benita Renee (Bishop Robert) Dixon of Wildwood, Fla.; one brother, Danny Gregory (Sylvia) Wells of Ashtabula; two daughters, T’Keyah Lashelle Wells of Cleveland and Shakara Knapp of Ashtabula; uncles and aunts; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Deacon Sam and Ruby (Gladney) Wells Sr., Hazel and Clara (Goss) Ashford; and his father, the Rev. Dr. Sam Wells Jr.
Funeral Services will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, Nov. 3rd, at People’s Baptist Church, 3837 West Ave., with the Rev. Dr. German Womack officiating. Burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery.
A Calling Hour will be held from 11 a.m. until time of Service, Saturday, at the Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family. DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, is handling arrangements.
