DAYTON — James G. Miller, age 87, formerly of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away at Hospice of Dayton on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, after a long illness.
James was born on Nov. 6, 1924, in Ashtabula, the son of Jeanne (Clarke) and Joseph S. Miller. An Ashtabula resident most of his life, James was a 1942 graduate of Ashtabula Senior High School and a 1949 graduate of Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. James was a W.W.II Veteran, serving in the Army Air Forces, primarily in the Ninth Air Force, European Theater of Operations.
James had a long career with the RMI Corp. as a management accountant, retiring in 1986.
He enjoyed reading, bowling and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. A long-time member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Ashtabula, he served many years as the church treasurer.
James will be remembered for his strength and courage in the face of adversity, his wonderful smile, love of family and friends, and his great faith in the Lord.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta N. “Lori” Miller of Dayton; sons, The Rev. James P. (Sue) Miller of Brookville, Ohio, Kurt (Gayle) Miller of Worthington, Ohio, and Bruce (Marygrace) Miller of Centerville, Ohio; daughters, Beth (Eric) Lofgren of Highland Heights, Ohio, and Amy Miller of Falls Church, Va.; step-son, Ken Meade of Delaware; and step-daughter, Kathy (Denny) Mosley of New Jersey; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson; brother, Joseph (Gloria) Miller of Greece, N.Y.; sister, Peg (Jack) Shea of Willoughby, Ohio; four step-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dawn (Lehtinen) Miller in 1986; and an infant daughter, Lisa in 1955.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13th, at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio, with The Rev. E. Richard Bowen officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Dewey-Howlett Post #103 of the American Legion.
Calling Hours will be observed from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12th, at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula and also from 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 13th, until the time of Service at 10:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
