ASHTABULA — Edwin S. Cieslewicz, age 91, of Dunkirk, N.Y., died Sunday morning, Feb. 24, 2013, at the Country Club Retirement Center in Ashtabula, Ohio.
Born Sept. 14, 1921, in Dunkirk, he was the son of the late Adam and Constance (Czarnowski) Cieslewicz. A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Mr. Cieslewicz was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with three Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Ribbon.
He had been employed by the city of Dunkirk in the maintenance department.
His membership included VFW John T. Murray Post #1017, Kosciuszko Polish Home and Local #912. He attended Holy Trinity Church.
Mr. Cieslewicz enjoyed gardening, horse racing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter, Katherine (John) Parmarter of Meadville, Pa.; four grandchildren, Jean (Josh) Duda of Brooksville, Fla., John Parmarter of Erie, Pa., June (Clint) Penniman of Conneaut, Ohio, and Jenny (Sean) Singer of Meadville, Pa.; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Isabella H. (Tilly) Cieslewicz, whom he married Oct. 11, 1946, and who died April 11, 2009; and four brothers, Victor, John, Felix and Thomas Cieslewicz.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday morning at 11 o’clock, in the McGRAW-KOWAL FUNERAL HOME, 736 Central Ave., Dunkirk, N.Y., with the Rev. Joseph Zalacca officiating. Burial will be in Willowbrook Park Cemetery.
