TAMPA, Fla. — Mary A. Guerriero, age 99, passed away in Tampa, Fla. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.
Born in Ashtabula, Ohio, on Oct. 2, 1913, to Jenny and Louis Mongenel, she graduated from Ashtabula High School and Business College.
As assistant to the County Tax Assessor, she enjoyed using her bilingual ability to help immigrants in the community. Mary was active in education as President of the PTA City Council and of several local charities. She was President of the Deanery Council of Catholic Women and President of the Altar and Rosary Societies of both Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Ashtabula, and of St. Anne's in Ridge Manor, Fla. She was also a Eucharistic Minister in Ridge Manor, Fla. Mary had a unique ability to grow beauty and to cook and generously shared her seeds and recipes.
Mary was pre-deceased by her husband, Anthony Guerriero; and a daughter, Marlene Durst Sweet; four brothers, Ralph, Harry, Fred and Edward Mongenel; and three sisters, Anna Turner, Rose Morano and Carmel Kuhn.
She is survived by a daughter, Janice Elaine Taylor and her husband, Jack Chmielewski of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren, Troy Taylor (Angie) of Orlando, Fla., Misty Taylor Chaves, Esq. (Rick) of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Nathan Durst, Esq. of Columbus, Ohio, Christopher Durst (Vicki) of Marietta, Ga. and David Chmielewski (Eydie) of Lutz, Fla.; and several great-granchildren, nieces, nephews, godchildren and good friends that she cherished.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 20th, at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula, with entombment to follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Funeral Home.
