KINGSVILLE —
Ted J. "Bear" Sarbiewski, age 83, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, in the Ashtabula Co. Nursing Home.
He was born in Sheffield Township, Ohio, on Nov. 14, 1928, the son of Bruno and Blanche (Dieciontkowski) Sarbiewski. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War in the 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagles". On Sept. 24, 1949, he married Louise Cress.
With his wife and sister Henrietta, he owned and operated T & H Restaurant and The Snak Shak; he went on to own the Surrey Lane Lounge and then Sardi's Restaurant and Lounge.
He loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing and boating. But the times Ted most enjoyed were those spent with his family, especially his grandkids.
He is survived by his children, Ted (Debby) Sarbiewski of Sheffield, Ed (Charla) Sarbiewski of Sheffield and Cheri (Michael) Houser of Ashtabula; his grandchildren, Stephanie and Steven Houser and T.J., Nichole, Katie and Philip Sarbiewski; his great-grandson, Johnny; his brother, Edwin (Mary Lou) Sarbiewski; and his niece, Jan (Bill) Kaydo, who he loved like a daughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Louise on Feb. 27, 2001; his sisters, Henrietta Stasko, Helen Hietanen, Jane LaVallee and Lottie Golembiowski; and his brother, Henry.
Funeral Services will be held 3:30 p.m., Saturday, March 3rd, at FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL HOME, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Philip Miller officiating. Full Military Honors will be observed at the Funeral Home following the Service.
Calling Hours will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of Service, Saturday, at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made in his name to Hospice of the Western Reserve, the Ashtabula Co. Animal Protective League or the Sheffield Vol. Fire Dept., envelopes will be available at the funeral home. CZUP FUNERAL HOME, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula is handling the arrangements.
