Albert A. King

ORWELL — Albert Alonzo King, age 88, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, slipped away quietly in his sleep to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, Feb. 24, 2013. He passed away at his home on Davis Road in Orwell Township surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Corley, W.Va., on August 16, 1924, the 11th of 12 children and the last to survive, born to the late Olen C. and Martha A. (Lake) King. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy during World War II and served on a mine sweeper following the invasion of Pearl Harbor. Mr. King was married to his sweetheart, Macel Eileen Bender on Feb. 28, 1953, in Webster Springs, W.Va. His earthly presence will not be here, but he will live on forever in her heart on this special day, their 60th Anniversary and his home going day.

Mr. King moved his family to Ohio from Hacker Valley, W.Va., in 1965. He worked more than 32 years at Newbury Industries, retiring in 1997. He had a natural aptitude for electronics and was responsible for bringing electricity to his family’s share of the mountain when living in Hacker Valley, W.Va.

He was a member of the Grand Valley Church of the Nazarene since 1974, where he taught the adult Sunday school class for many years. Faith was a large part of his life, he was often remembered for sitting and reading his Bible. Mr. King was a talented musician, playing any stringed instrument. He was especially noted for playing the violin (fiddle) and has performed on both radio and television. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He always had his special greeting to his family members, “the nudge”, the light touch of his elbow, to show how much you meant to him.

His survivors include his wife, M. Eileen King; four children, Chester N. (Jane) King of Kissimmee, Fla., E. Duane (Barbara) King of Bristol, Wis., Paula J. (Darl) Krieg of Colebrook Township and Cherylene L. (Steven) Peterson of Algonquin, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, Matthew (Celinas), Allison, Darrel Jason, Christy (Bryan), Heather, Doug (Greta), Apryl, Hope, Nikki (Dan), Veronica, Cassandra (Brian) and Stephani; 16 grandchildren, Ryan, Abby, Madelyn, Ryan, Taylor, Jonathon, Ciara, Richelle, Kayden, Melody, Christian, Myranda, Baylie, Aubrie, Robbie and Alaina; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

“We would like to thank our family, friends and church family for all the support, visits, gifts and prayers during this time. Thanks to the Erie and Ashtabula Veterans Administration for their compassionate care over the last 10 years, to Harbor Light Hospice and AdvaCare for their loving, prompt, professional care, making the last two days of his life the best it could be. Special thanks to Fleming & Billman Funeral Home for their special care and attention given to us.”

Funeral Services will be held at 12 p.m., Noon, Thursday, Feb. 28th, at the Jefferson Home of the FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Deborah Jackson, of the Grand Valley Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial will be in Orwell Cemetery with Geneva Post #6846 of the VFW providing Military Honors.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. until time for the Service at the Funeral Home.
