JAMESTOWN, Pa. — Doris Barnes, age 87, of Jamestown, Pa., formerly of Gates Mills, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at her residence.


She was born August 22, 1922, in Bangor, Maine, to the late Herbert and Hattie Philbrick. Doris had also lived in Chagrin Falls and Hunting Valley.


Doris enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening, especially flower gardening. She loved to sing and dance and often spoke about dancing in her younger years. She worked as a dietician first for ASM in Newbury and then for Western Reserve Convalescent Home in Kirtland where she retired in 1986. After her retirement, she began baking her famous pies for Barb’s Restaurant in Andover.


Survivors include her sons, Gary (Carol) Barnes of Jamestown, Pa., James A. (Patricia) Barnes of Dorset, Rand (Barbara) Barnes of Andover and Jay (Nancy) Barnes of Willoughby; grandchildren, Scott, Kim, Wendy, Christine, Howard L., Rand Jr., Erik, Michael and Marie; 22 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her Husband, Howard L. Barnes in 1987; her infant son, Herbert; granddaughter, Jaimee; grandsons, Robert and Gary Jr.; and siblings, Albert, Edna, Lewis and Linwood.


Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 9th, at the SAM RITONDARO FUNERAL HOME, 126 South St., Chardon, with Pastor Wayne Sanders, of Chardon Christian Fellowship, officiating. Burial will follow at Western Reserve Memorial Garden in Chesterland.


Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8th, at the Funeral Home.
