ASHTABULA — Charles R. Truckey, age 78, of Austinburg, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Feb. 11, 1934, in Princeton, Ind., he was the son of the late Dan and Lucille (Blevins) Truckey, and had resided in this area since 1958. He graduated in 1952 from Mackey High School in Indiana. He later joined the U.S. Air Force and served his country from 1956-1960.
Mr. Truckey worked as a tool and die maker for Iten Fiber and later as a purchasing agent in the Ashtabula County Engineer’s Office until his retirement after 21 years of service.
In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, growing vegetables in his garden, and tinkering around in his garage.
He is survived by his sister, Bonnie O’Brien of Boise, Idaho; brothers, Lee Truckey of Ashtabula, Warren “Junior” Sams of Saybrook and Charles Sams of Washington, Ind.; four step-children, Vicki, Marybeth, Patrick and Billy; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; sister, Shirley Hilt; brother, Tom Truckey; step-son, Tom; and his parents.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5th, at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Kenneth Roberts, of the Pentecostal Church of God, officiating.
Calling Hours will be held Saturday at the Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Service. Burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Crossroads Hospice.
