COLLINSVILLE, Okla. —
John J. DePascale, age 92, of Collinsville, Okla. and formerly of Ashtabula, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, in Tulsa, Okla.
Born Feb. 13, 1919, in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of Vincenzo and Mary (Guilardi) DePascale. John lived in Brier Hill until the family moved to Ashtabula in 1930. He graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1939.
Mr. DePascale was a lifetime member of the United Transportation Union, having worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and retiring from Conrail. He was also a member of Sons of Italy of America 1169 and the Elks club.
Beside working on the railroad, he was a well known bartender in various locations in the area and was the oldest licensed professional bartender in Ohio.
Survivors include his son, Dr. Bart (Erin) DePascale of Poland Ohio; daughters, Kathleen (Victor) Spess of Vienna Ohio, Ann (Donald) Landers of Collinsville Okla. and Victoria (Craig) Cleveland of Helena, Mont.; grandchildren, Maj. David Spess, Gina Hunt, Brian and Vincent DePascale and Angela Finocchi; and eight great-grandchildren who affectionately called him “Papa John”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 50 years, the former Judith White; daughter, Maryann DePascale; sisters, Yolanda Gyevat and Josephine Petrecca; and brothers Nicholas, Angelo, Vincent and Bartholomew DePascale .
Funeral Service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11th, at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula, with burial to follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 12 Noon until time of Service, Saturday, at the Funeral Home.
