MELBOURNE, Fla. —
Mary Frances Lester McMorris died in Melbourne, Fla., on Saturday, March 17, 2012. The cause of death was simply old age. Mary was 101 years and 4 months old, having been born Nov. 10, 1910.
Mary was a long-time resident of Ashtabula, Ohio, until 1980, when she and her husband, James T. McMorris, moved to Baltimore, Md., to be closer to their daughter, Deborah. In Baltimore, they bought a $1.00 house, which was theirs with the responsibility to restore the building. The house was on Stirling Street in the Baltimore Historical Area, and restored to perfection.
In Ashtabula, Mary and Jim lived on 5th Street in the Harbor for many decades and then moved to a home they constructed on Lake Road West.
During Mary’s life in Ashtabula, after raising daughter, Deborah, she operated a beauty shop out of her home. Husband “Jim” was associated with McMorris Dairy, which provided dairy milk and creamery products to many Ashtabula homes.
Mary was very active in the Lake Avenue Methodist Church and continued her activity after the move to Baltimore. She was a dedicated Christian.
Mary was preceded in death by Jim and later, in 1990, by Deborah.
She leaves as survivors on her side of the family, her sister, Virginia Malloy of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother, James Lester of Melbourne, Fla.; niece, Pat Sickafoose and her husband, Allen; and nephews, Dennis Malloy and John Lester. On her married side of the family, she leaves nephews, Tim and Tom Brown, sons of Arthelia McMorris Brown; nieces, Barbara Nieminen and Carol Phillips, daughters of Margaret McMorris Taano; and a niece, Judy McKnight, and nephew, Jim McMorris, daughter and son of Walter McMorris.
A Memorial Service and burial will be at Edgewood Cemetery in Ashtabula, 10 a.m. on Friday, May 11th, with the Rev. Shane Nanney, of the East Side Presbyterian Church, officiating.
The Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements. Obituary and condolences at fleming-billman.com and starbeacon.com.
