MENTOR — Loretta Marie (Daley) Patterson “Aunt Ret”, age 94, of Mentor, Ohio, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Tri-Point Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 3, 1918, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of Peter P. and Georgianna (Morgan) Daley and had been a resident of Ashtabula until 1946 when she moved to Lake County.
A 1936 graduate of Ashtabula High School, she went on to study at Kent State University and Lake Erie College, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She retired in 1982 after 17 years as a first grade teacher at Grant Elementary School in Willoughby.
Loretta was a member of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Mentor, serving as a sacristan for 13 years, was a member of the Monday Morning Crew, and assisted in numerous church functions. She also served as a Hospice Volunteer for five years at Hospice at Lake West Hospital in Willoughby.
Her survivors include her sister-in-law, Mary Daley of Mentor; nieces and nephews, William (Elaine) Scheanon of Ashtabula, Cathy (John) Ovak of Ashtabula, Chris (Jack) Root of Andover, Maribeth (Keith) Ecklund of Geneva, Paula (George) Schmidt of Espyville, Pa., Rose Fani of Mentor, John (Kathy) Daley of Mentor and Tom (Marlene Berky) Daley of Fairport Harbor; and numerous other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, and friends.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill Patterson; two sons, Patrick and Michael Patterson; a sister, Catherine Scheanon; brothers, Vernon and Paul Daley; and her parents, Peter P. and Georgianna Daley.
A Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14th, at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, Ohio, with Father Charles Poore presiding. At her request no calling hours will be observed. Inurnment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, Jefferson, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Happy Hearts School, St. Joseph Church in Jefferson or St. Mary’s Church of Mentor.
