NORTH KINGSVILLE — Alfred E. Gruening, age 83, of North Kingsville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, surrounded by his family.
Al was born on Feb. 13, 1929, in Cleveland, the son of Emil and Olga (Kuppe) Gruening.
He worked at Ashtabula Bow Socket in the forge room for 35 years and then became a bus driver for Kings Tours traveling over much of the U.S. until retirement.
Al thoroughly enjoyed building his home and working in the garage. He enjoyed rebuilding Cub Cadet tractors. Al was a member of the Ashtabula County Engine Club. He was a member of the Conneaut First Assembly of God Church, where he served on the Board and was a Sunday School teacher and choir member.
Al is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Laura “Bea”; three children, Judy (George) Gourley of Willoughby, Bonnie (Brad) Todd of North Kingsville and James of Sheffield; and three grandchildren, Emily (Todd) Sweeney, Aaron Gruening and Laura Gruening; one step-grandson, Chad Gourley. He is also survived by his sisters, Wilma Gruening and Vi Matteson; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Heinz Gruening.
Calling Hours will be 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 3rd, at POTTI LAKESIDE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 4th, at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at East Lake Cemetery in North Kingsville.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Hospice of the Western Reserve.
