ASHTABULA — Milford “Mickey” B. Wheeler, age 88, of W. 48th St., died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
He was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of Bernie S. and Eulah (Braden) Wheeler and had been a lifetime area resident. He served in the Army during World War II with the 82nd Air Bourne in the European Theater of Operations.
He had worked for True Temper in Saybrook for over 30 years before retiring. Even after retiring, he continued to work at various jobs in the area. He had owned the Office Lounge and also bartended at different bars in the area. He was always staying busy.
He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #943 in Ashtabula and also a member of the Moose Lodge in Ashtabula where he served as Secretary in the 1980’s. He enjoyed playing softball and played in his younger years up into his 50’s; he was a avid bowler; he loved building lamps; he also enjoyed woodworking and golf and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving him are seven children, Michael (Judy) Wheeler of Taylor, Mich., Dennis (Doris) Wheeler of Ashtabula, Jeffrey (Renee) Wheeler of Conneaut, Steve (Angela) Wheeler of Ashtabula, Charles Wheeler of Dorset, Linda (Martin) Fox of Conneaut and John (Shellie New) Wheeler of Ashtabula; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Wheeler of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kaino M. Wheeler in 2011; a grandson, Ian Wheeler in 2002; four brothers, Ed, Cyrus, Bernie and Richard Wheeler; and four sisters, Geraldine Nelson, Betty Hairoff, Vera M. Champlin and Mary Alice Christy.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30th, at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with Pastor Frank Gore, of Good Shepard Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, with American Legion Dewey Howlet Post #103 conducting Military Rites.
Calling Hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, (Jan. 29th, at the Funeral Home.
