Charles G. McGeady

CONNEAUT — Charles G. McGeady, age 80, of Saybrook, Ohio, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, peacefully at his home.

He was born Nov. 7, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Francis and Mary McGeady. Charles volunteered for the draft in 1953. Following basic training, he was sent to Fort Sill Officer Candidate School. This was the first graduating class of Guided Missiles and Artillery program. He was assigned to the initial Atomic Field Army training at Fort Benning, Ga., and received an honorable discharge in 1956.

He was a graduate of John Carroll University in 1958. After completing his studies, he joined Gabriel Company, maker of auto parts. In 1960, he married Irene Halonen and the same year accepted a position at Donn Products as Assistant to the President. In 1966, he was offered a position of Executive VP in the newly formed Cleveland Steel Container. Following that, he held the position of President in several companies tied to containers and metal fabrication. He retired as President of Ballonoff Company, a subsidiary of U.S. Can.

In retirement, Mr. McGeady enjoyed several hobbies including jogging, billiards and piano playing in several bands. His avocation was investing and providing consulting services for former colleagues. He also took pleasure in traveling and spending time with his family.

Charles is survived by his wife, Irene McGeady; two daughters, Michelle Priller of Texas, and Elaine Wolfson (Russ) of Pennsylvania; son, Sean McGeady (Mary); two grandchildren, Rachel and Lyndsey; and two sisters, Marguerite Martin and Eileen McGeady, both of Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Francis McGeady.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 12th, at Our Lady of Peace Parish, Mother of Sorrows Church, 1464 West 6th St., Ashtabula, Ohio, with the Rev. Father Raymond Thomas as celebrant. A Private Committal Service will be held Tuesday at Highland Park Cemetery in Cleveland.

Calling Hours will be Friday, Jan. 11th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004.
