Philip H. Hoffman

TRENTON, Tenn. — Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Philip Henry Hoffman, left this life to go home to his Lord, on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012.

Mr. Hoffman was born Nov. 21, 1933, in Beaver Falls, Pa., the son of the late Philip H. Hoffman and Mary (Cross) Hoffman. He spent most of his childhood in Ashtabula, Ohio. A graduate of Ashtabula High School, Mr. Hoffman attended The Ohio State University, enrolled as part of the U.S. Air R.O.T.C. and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. While serving in the Army, Mr. Hoffman trained as part of the military police and served overseas with NATO Forces in Turkey.

Mr. Hoffman met his wife, Molly Ann (Jones) Hoffman in Painesville, Ohio, while working for CIT Financial and they were married on May 3, 1958, living in Madison until 1962 and then moving to Ashtabula to raise his family. A long-time business owner, he owned the Beverage Shops in Ashtabula from 1962 to 1988. He was a member, elder and trustee of the former Prospect Presbyterian Church in Ashtabula.

Mr. Hoffman and his wife retired to Trenton, Tenn. in 1988. He worked as a security guard for Murray Guard for a number of years and was a member of the Gibson County Volunteer Fire Department. He attended the Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In life, he loved fishing, gardening, skiing, model cars and was a wine enthusiast. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hoffman was preceded in death by his beloved and devoted wife, Molly Ann Hoffman.

He is survived by his brother, David W. Hoffman (wife Elona Hoffman); son, Philip J. Hoffman (wife Jeanne Hoffman); daughter, Beth Adams (husband David Adams); and grandchildren, Alison Adams, Philip D. Hoffman and Rachel H. Hoffman.

Services for Philip H. Hoffman will be held Today, Nov. 20th, at the Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 153 Herd Law Road, Trenton, Tenn. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m., with the Funeral immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of West Tennessee or the American Cancer Society.
