Owen L. Redford

CANTON — Owen Lamar Redford, age 66, of Hartville, Ohio, and also Eustis, Fla., for half of the year, formerly of Roaming Shores, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio.

Born April 21, 1946, he was the son of the late Garnet and Maggie Redford. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in the 82nd Airborne in Vietnam.

Owen was a central office technician for the former Alltel Phone Company until his retirement in 2006. He was a volunteer fireman for the Rome fire department. 

Owen coached his children in a variety of sports and was a dedicated father and grandfather. His grandchildren were the joy of his life.

He was an active member of the Westside Church of Christ in Akron.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Redford of Hartville, Ohio; daughter, Renee Blair of Roaming Shores; son, Scott (Krista) Redford of Madison; grandchildren, Brooklynne, Austin and Lexington Blair, Jacob Redford, Steven, Jeremy, Luke and Meredith Archer, Benjamin, Madeline and Andrew Swartz, and Racheal Young; step-daughters, Jacquelyn (Brian) Archer of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Jessica (Michael) Swartz of North Canton; step-son, James Young of Chesapeake, Va.; brothers, Wayne Redford of Stow, Gary (Carol) Redford of Richfield, Joseph Redford of Alabama and Travis Redford of Green, Ohio; sisters, Linda (Harold) Brady of Alabama, Catheline Redford of Alabama and Frances Gray of Stow, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Dee (Parsons) Redford; his parents; and a brother, Terry Redford.

Funeral Service will be 7 p.m., Friday, May 4th, 2012, at the BURR FUNERAL HOME, 116 South St., (Route 44, 500’ south of Route 6/Chardon Square), Chardon, with Mike Miles, Ph.D., officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 9th, at Rome Cemetery, Rome, Ohio.

Visitation will be Friday, May 4th, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
