Ronald E. Winters

ASHTABULA — Ronald E. Winters, age 72, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Ashtabula County Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 27, 1940, in Frostburg, Md., the son of George E. and Helen (Fazenbaker) Winters and had been an Ashtabula resident most of his life.

Prior to his retirement, he worked for COE Manufacturing in Painesville and previously for the local painters union.

Ron loved cars and car shows, always happiest when his head was under the hood of a car. He made regular trips to the drag strip, especially Thompson and was known to have a passion for Dairy Queen and Lay’s potato chips.

Survivors include his former wife, Betty L. (Jude) Winters of Chardon; five children, Linda K. Dinger of Chardon, Debora (Scott) Robinson of Eastlake, and Timothy A. Winters, Robert J. Winters and Noah Scott Winters, all of Chardon; 13 grandchildren, Melissa, Sara, Joey, Tyler, Ryan, Kayla, Timothy Jr. (T.R.), Heather, Madison, Robert Jr. (R.J.), Stephanie, Mallory and Doug; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Pastor Shirley (Allen) Frantz of Bristolville; one brother, Dale (Phyllis) Platz of Pierpont; two half-brothers, Gary (Diana) Winters of Placeville, Calif. and Edward (Suzanne) Winters of Orangevale, Calif.; and his loyal pet cockatiel, “Petrie” who ate dinner with him nightly.

He was preceded in death by two children, Rhonda Jean Winters in infancy and Dean Winters on May 6, 2008; one great-grandchild, Avian Phoenix Barnes; and his parents.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 2nd, at Harpersfield United Methodist Church, 224 Garford Road, Geneva, Ohio, with Pastor Shirley Frantz officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery, Ashtabula at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula who is in charge of arrangements.
