RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — Don M. Rawlings, age 58, formerly of Conneaut and the West Springfield area, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Peconic Bay Medical Center, Riverhead, N.Y.
Don was born Oct. 21, 1954, in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of Richard (Don) and Nancy Gustaferro Rawlings. He was a 1973 graduate of Northwestern High School. In 1973, Don entered the United States Marine Corp and he later served in the United States Navy Reserves, until he was honorably discharged in 1980. Don was a graduate of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa., and earned his MBA degree at the University of Pittsburgh.
Don worked for various contractors at the U.S. Department of Energy and served in the Management and Property Procurement Division. Don was an avid sports fan and especially liked the Cleveland Browns. He also enjoyed watching and playing recreational basketball and softball.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Rawlings in 2010.
Don is survived by his wife, Charlotte Brinchi Rawlings of Riverhead, N.Y.; a son, Aaron and Tara Rawlings of Frederick, Md.; a daughter, Andrea Rawlings of Riverhead, N.Y.; his father, Richard (Don) Rawlings of Conneaut; sisters, Robin and Brian Oatman of Conneaut, and Debbie and Paul Nicholson of Oklahoma; a brother, Ron Rawlings of Alexandria, Va.; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and his dog, “Lucy.”
Calling Hours will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 16th, at RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 Noon, Saturday, Feb. 16th, at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill St., Conneaut, with Fr. Philip Miller, of STM/ SFC Parish, presiding. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Route 20, Conneaut, where the Cowle Post 151 American Legion Honor Squad will conduct Military Services.
