WALTON, W.Va. — Terrence Lee Shaffer, age 65, of Charleston Road, Walton, W.Va., passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at his home.
Born Feb. 10, 1947, in Masontown, W.Va., he was the son of Fannie I. (May) and Robert G. Shaffer Sr. On Nov. 19, 1969, he married Janet Kay Light in Cleveland, Ohio.
A Veteran of the U.S. Navy, he also worked at Lawless Cont. Corp. in Madison, Ohio; Florida Pkg. in Pompano, Fla.; and Conscript in Deerfield, Fla.
He was an avid fisherman and loved to go fishing with his step-father, who he claimed as his dad.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Kay; his mother, Fannie Kleps of Rock Creek, Ohio; son, Terrence Lee (Ana) Shaffer Jr. of Margate, Fla.; daughter, Tonya Kay (Tony) Togue of Wichita, Kan.; grandchildren, Sierra Togue, Nicholas, Brandon and Christian Shaffer; sisters, Evelyn Johnson of Lakeland, Fla., Brenda (Paul) Mosier of Windsor, Ohio, and Patricia (Richard) Lawson of Geneva, Ohio; brother, Robert G. Shaffer Jr. of Walton, W.Va.; step-brothers, William (Carol) Kelps Sr. of DeBary, Fla., James (Ruth) Kelps of Geneva, Ohio, Robert (Joyce) Kelps of Austinburg, Ohio, John (Gayle) Kelps of Clemont, Fla., Gary Kelps of Orlando, Fla., and Gordon (Sandy) Kleps of Geneva, Ohio; uncles, Clifford May of Morgantown, W.Va., Walter (Mary) May Jr. of Arthurdale, W.Va., and Roger May of Masontown, W.Va., Daniel Shaffer of Masontown, W.Va.,and John Shaffer of Arkansas; and aunts, Phyllis (Burton) Shaffer, Janet (Butch) Shaffer, Judy Johnson and Joyce (Marvin) Cotterell, all of Masontown, W.Va., Susan (Greg) Gresser of Kingwood, W.Va., Carolyn May and Anna May, both of Morgantown, W.Va., Ginny and Gertrude, both of Kingwood, W.Va., and Thelma of New York.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert G. Shaffer Sr.; his father, William A. Kleps Sr.; grandparents, Walter and Lula May, and Lonnie and Inez Shaffer; uncles, Robert and David May, and Ray and Bud Shaffer; and aunts, Betty Shaffer and Edna May.
There was a viewing with cremation following at JOHN H. TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, Spencer, W.Va., on Jan. 17th. His ashes will be brought back to Geneva in the Spring and scattered over Grand River. A Memorial Gathering will be held at that time.
