Maureen J. Gannon

CHARDON — Maureen J. Gannon, age 75, of E. Monroe Circle, Jefferson, Ohio, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Geauga Medical Center.

Born May 14, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late James T. and Ruth (Borland) Smith. She was born and raised in Cleveland where she attended Mayfield High School. On Oct. 7, 1967, she married Patrick J. Gannon in Cleveland.

In her early days, she worked as a car hop at the local Big Boys. She later worked for many years at Broadfield Manor where she was a nurse’s aide and was also a Union Steward.

Maureen loved to dance. She competed with her brother Jim in many dance contests over the years. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Calasanctus Church in Jefferson where she set up the altar for Mass for many years. She also taught CCD at the Immaculate Conception Church in Madison for a number of years. Maureen was a member of the ASPCA, and had a great love for animals especially dogs, cats, and elephants. She loved old movies, Elvis music, purses, jewelry and stuffed animals, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Maureen is survived by her sons, Tim (Ronnie) Kelley Sr. of Ashtabula and Jim (Teressa) Kelley of Akron; daughters, Kim (Steve) Sespico of Warren and Maureen C. Gannon of Jefferson; grandchildren, Michael, Rochelle, James, Justin, Danae, Christopher and Tim Jr.; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick in 1991; son, Patrick Kelley; brothers, Jim and Tim Smith; and her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10th, at the St. Joseph Calasanctus Church in Jefferson, with Father Charles Poore presiding. Burial will follow at Madison Memorial Cemetery.

Calling Hours will be on Thursday, Jan. 10th, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League.
