JEFFERSON —
Bill R. Collins, age 83, of N. Chestnut St., Jefferson, died Friday evening, May 4, 2012, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born August 22, 1928, in Ethel, W.Va., the son of Floyd R. and Margaret R. (Lewis) Collins and had resided in Jefferson since 1955, coming from Hamlin, W.Va. Mr. Collins was a Veteran of both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Marines, serving in the Korean Conflict.
He was a 35 year employee of Elkem Metals, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Steel Workers Union Local #3081 and the Jefferson Eagles Club.
Survivors include his wife, Marion R. (Richmond) Collins, whom he married on April 25, 1959, at Jefferson First Baptist Church; two daughters, Margaret A. Tyler of Geneva and Pamela S. (Mike Billings) Lamb of Ashtabula; two grandchildren, Jessica L. (Justin) Bess in Germany and Braden M. Billings of Ashtabula; and two sisters, Judy C. Huffman and Florence V. Johnson, both of Hamlin, W.Va.
His parents, Floyd in 1933 and Margaret in 1996; a sister, Helen M. Collins; a brother, John Collins in infancy; and a half-brother, Thomas Davis all preceded him in death.
Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 9th, at the Jefferson Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Fred Grimm, of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and hospice chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery where Geneva VFW Post #6846 will provide Military Honors.
Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until time of Service, Wednesday, at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004.
