CLEVELAND —
Minnie Sailes, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Beloved wife of the late Dempsey Sailes, Sr.; mother of Dempsey, Alan, Bradley, Earl and Saundra with a host of relatives and friends.
She was born Dec. 6, 1920, to the late Dave Levenuel (D.L.) and Nancy (Lowe) Conley in Boyd, Ala. She was the fourteenth of twenty-two children. As a child, she attended Boyd Institution, Boyd, Ala., Sumter County Training School, Livingston, Ala., and also Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Ala.
She later relocated to Cleveland, Ohio with her sister Nancy Conley Powell, where she was employed at Chase and Brass, and TRW in the cafeteria. There she met and married Dempsey P. Sailes Sr., and later was employed at Huron Road Hospital until she and Dempsey relocated the family to Cherry Valley Township (Andover, Ohio) in 1964, where she obtained a job at Andover Industries until her retirement in 1982.
Minnie was a member of the Jehovah Witnesses Kingdom Hall. She was a loyal and faithful member of the congregation for many years. In December 2010, she moved back to Cleveland, Ohio, due to illness to live with her son, Alan Sailes.
Minnie loved life and was a dear friend to many who she cherished like family. She touched many lives, she will be greatly missed and loved forever. Minnie loved gardening, canning, sewing and cooking. She was happiest when entertaining family and friends on their fifty acre farm.
Minnie will be laid to rest alongside her husband of 62 years. In the words of St. Francis of Assisi, “It is in dying we are born to eternal life.” Rest in peace Mom and Dad.
