HOWLAND — Helen Sophie Damstoft, of Howland, Ohio, entered into eternal rest late Tuesday morning, Dec. 4,2012, at her residence with her family at her side following a lengthy illness, she was 87.
Helen was born the daughter of the late Martin and Sophie (Szmyd) Pietras on May 26, 1925, in Richmond, Ohio, and was a lifetime area resident. She was a graduate of Grand Valley High School, Class of 1943. On Sept. 14, 1946, Helen was united into marriage with her first husband, Joseph A. Barr, until his passing, Nov. 20, 1950. Then she married her second husband, Lief Damstoft, whom passed Nov. 8, 1983.
She was a Civil Service Worker with the Vienna AirBase for 20 years and later with Franklin Pharmacy in Warren.
Helen was a member of the Unity Church Centre in Girard, Ohio, and enjoyed dancing both Polka and Ballroom, along with playing a good hand of pinochle.
Her memories will be remembered and cherished by those she leaves behind, son, Leif Paul (Jeanette) Damstoft of Warren, Ohio; daughters, Louise Damstoft (Clarence) Hathaway of Howland, Ohio, and Elaine Barr of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Lena Jones of Parma, Ohio; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Joseph Barr and Leif Damstoft; five brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral Services will be 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8th, at the Unity Church Centre in Girard, Ohio, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Rick Schumacher.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Helen’s name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, Ohio 44515, for the great care provided to Helen and her family in her final days.
