CONNEAUT — Leroy G. Smith, age 91, of Parrish Road, Conneaut, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at UPMC Hamot, Erie, Pa.
Mr. Smith was born August 26, 1921, in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of Roy A. and Ruth Margaret (Craytor) Smith. He was a lifelong resident of Conneaut. He graduated from the Conneaut High School Class of 1939 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving during World War II.
Leroy was employed as a railroad yard clerk, retiring in 1986. He was an 84 year member of the former Lakeview United Methodist Church now New Leaf United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer for over 50 years for Lakeview U.M.C. Leroy enjoyed bowling and table tennis.
Mr. Smith is survived by his nieces, Sharon Cade of Hagerstown, Md. Judy Burke of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Pamela Hall of Republic, Mo.; nephew, Stephen Smith of Mount Rainier, Md.; 8 great-nieces and nephews; and 10 great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Morris C. Smith; infant brother, Dwayne Smith; and good friend, Harry Church.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 7th, at THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Jan Walsh, of New Leaf United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of Services at 11 a.m.
