Betty Lou Goodale

MEADVILLE, Pa. — Betty Lou Goodale, age 91, of Meadville, Pa., passed away at her home on Saturday morning, Nov. 17, 2012.

She was born Feb. 23, 1921, in Conneaut, Ohio, the daughter of Rockford and Wanda (Evans) Benson. On Jan. 29, 1939, Betty married Kenneth V. Goodale (he survives), they lived in Maryland for 53 years prior to moving to Meadville, Pa. in 2005 to spend their remaining years with family and friends.

Betty devoted her life to all the military organizations including the Fleet Reserve Auxiliary of Washington, D.C., life member of the Women’s Auxiliary of VFW Post 9619 of Morningside, Md., the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks Club and American Legion Auxiliary both of Camp Springs, Md.  She loved the Washington Redskins, playing poker, gambling and having a beer with all of her military family and friends.

She loved flowers and gardening. She was a great cook and a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed Scrabble and completing daily crossword puzzles from multiple newspapers and magazines. She loved politics and was proud to cast her last vote for Governor Romney.

In addition to her husband Kenneth of 73 years, survivors include her son, Rockford (Sheila) Goodale of Knoxville, Tenn.; two daughters, Anita (Robert) Sowell of Cochranton, Pa. and Gretchen (Jeff) Puffer of Conneaut Lake, Pa.; brother, Richard (Martha) Benson of Conneaut, Ohio; sister, Jane Puffer of Concord, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Troy Goodale (fiancée Elizabeth), Vicki (Todd) Thurman, Paul (Paige) Goodale, Michele (Dean) Bramell, Brandi Biase, Mindy Sowell (fiancée Jeff) and Jeffrey S. Puffer; and six great-grandchildren, Bryce and Calie Biase, Jacob and Jared Bramell, and Griffin and Grayson Goodale; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and more distant relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Service will be held 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 23rd, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, with the Rev. Chris Fujii officiating.

A Calling Hour will be held from 2 p.m. until time of Service, Friday, at the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14031, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301, ATTN: Gift Processing, or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
