Suspect in homicide found in Warren

WARREN — A New York City homicide suspect accused of stealing a car in Maine is in custody in Ohio.

Police say 25-year-old Raymond Mayrant was tracked Friday to a mission that helps the homeless in Warren, about 50 miles southeast of Cleveland. The stolen vehicle also was found.

Police say it’s not clear why Mayrant was in Warren. He’s expected to be taken back to New York.

Jail records didn’t list an attorney for him.

He’s suspected of shooting his girlfriend and her mother Jan. 3. The older woman died, becoming New York’s first homicide victim of 2013.

Police in Maine allege Mayrant later stole a car from an unsuspecting father and daughter who apparently met him while asking for directions during a trip and gave him a ride to Maine.
