Lakeside, Geneva, Harvey, Shaker win in ACBF frosh tourney

Sayvaughn Morgan scorched the nets for 20 points as Lakeside downed Perry, 53-41, Wednesday in the Ashtabula County Basketball Foundation Freshmen Tournament at Jefferson High School.

Austin DiBell scored 11 points and Chad McAfee added 10 points for the Dragons (9-10).

Cale Burchyshow scored 13 points and Ryan Zaletel added 12 for the Pirates (6-9).

n Geneva 33, Jefferson 27 — Vern Thompson paced the Eagles (6-13) with 10 points and Lewis Wortman added nine.

Michael Mirando and Nathan O’Connor each scored six points for the Falcons (9-9).

n Harvey 55, Conneaut 36 — Colby Quigley netted 24 points and Devante Cooper added eight for the Red Raiders (13-6).

Nick Blood’s 11 points and Christian Williams’ eight led the Spartans.

n Shaker Heights 72, Riverside 47 — Anthony Kinney exploded for 23 points and Melran Leach and Deniro Laster each scored nine for the Raiders (13-6).

August Runyon scored 14 points and Chandler Smith added 11 for the Beavers (9-9).

Geneva and Lakeside will face off for fifth place at 4:30 p.m. today. The Spartans will face the Beavers for third place at 5:45 and Harvey and Shaker Heights will battle for the championship at 7.

    The Jefferson Falcons used an 8-2 early run and an 8-0 late run, both in the first quarter, backed by hot shooting, to open a big lead on the Conneaut Spartans that reached double digits early, paving the way to a solid 65-47 Falcon win Tuesday night at Falcon Gym.
