Lakeside’s boys swimming lost an 82-80 heartbreaker to South at University School on Saturday afternoon.
The meet was decided in the final event of the afternoon — the 400 freestyle relay. Two Lakeside relay teams in lanes 3 and 5 sandwiched South’s team in lane 4. Lakeside was winning in the first two legs of the race. However, South closed the gap and clinched the victory. The Lakeside boys are 3-1 this season.
Chip Ranck continued his super season and came in first in every individual event including 100 backstroke 1:04.62. Later in the meet, he broke the Lakeside school record in his 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:36.98. Other top finishers on the boys side include a first-place finishes by Tyler Emerson in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.92 and Dylan Ackley in 100 freestyle with a time of 1:03.31.
The Dragon girls lost to South, 136-40, but had personal bests by Courtney Smith in the 200 IM, Gabriella Novak in the 200 IM and a strong outing by Malynda Russell in the 50 free with a time of 29.29 in a close second place finish. Lakeside’s girls are 1-3 this season.
Lakeside returns to the pool Friday, Jan. 11 away against Riverside at the Madison YMCA.

Thanks to Mother Nature, Eleshia Pitcher and her Geneva Eagles were forced to wait one more day to play for a Division II district softball championship... at least one more day, that is.
