Geneva leads way

There were few teams in the region that could knock off the Geneva tennis team, let alone Ashtabula County.

The Eagles finished 19-1 with a perfect 10-0 mark in the Premier Athletic Conference. Geneva has won 12 of the last 13 league championships it has played for and has not lost a league match going all the way back to 2005.

The latest group of Eagles advanced to what amounts to the regional in the State Team Tournament.

Coach Scott Torok is the Star Beacon Ashtabula County Coach of the Year and his first singles player, Alyx Lynham is the Player of the Year.

They are joined on the first team by Eagles Alex Clarke, Martina Drugovich, Kristen Farrell, Anna Forman, Brooke Mihalick and Lindsey Varckette. Also securing first-team accolades are Katie Allan and Kayla Johnston of Lakeside and Megan Cowling of Jefferson.
