Top Guns take second

— The Ohio Top Guns 12U squad came home as the runner-up in the Ohio Magic ASA qualifier over the weekend in Boardman.

Sunday, the locals won a pair of games to reach the championship contest, defeating Canfield Crush, 8-0, in a five-inning run-rule affair, and Cyclones, 8-0, in another run-rule triumph, though that one needed six innings.

In the championship game, Top Guns was edged by Poland Pride, 4-3.

In the crushing of the Crush, Dani Heinonen and Taylor Rowe had two hits each, with Lexi Zappitelli ripping a triple and driving in a pair. Bailey Beckwith (1 hit, 4 K, 2 BB) earned the win on the mound.

In storming past Cylcones, Zappitelli heaved a six-inning no-hitter, fanning 11 and walking but one. Taylor Diemer had two hits, including a triple, while Ashten Noce had two knocks, including a double and Heinonen had a double and two RBI.

In the championship game against Poland Pride, Zappitelli had a triple and a double and two ribbies, while Diemer has a triple and a single and Heinonen had a double. Zappitelli (first inning, 4 hits, 1 K) and Diemer (6 innings, 2 hits, 3 K) worked on the mound.
