Do these advertisers all over this screen know that the SB only puts ‘certain’ information on this website and ‘holds’ other information for their precious print edition?

Wimpering Wahoos

Don,

Your recent Sunday column about the Indians is bang on, my friend. The Dolan-era of the Clevelnd Indians has hit rock bottom, in my humble opinion. The list of what is wrong with the Tribe is exceedingly long, with no prospects to alleviate the painful mess that abounds at Progressive Field. I feel like the team has regressed back to the teams of the 1970s and 1980s.

Dave Jacobs had built a model for a winning franchise in Cleveland. He had the patience, the money, and the personnel (administrative and players) to succeed and compete with the larger-market teams. It’s sad that Dolan reversed the good fortunes of what was already in place.

In order to right the ship in Cleveland, I truly believe that the Dolans need to sell the team. If the sale doesn’t happen, the Tribe will continue to be nothing but a bunch of dead stiffs!

With that, I’d like to say, go Cavs!

Best Regards,

Tom Eden

Don,

I was in town for the Covered Bridge Festival and picked up the Star Beacon at the hotel.

Yes, I have a working turntable and I use it.

I lived with three DJ’s in college and we had a huge album collection.

I copied several to cassette years ago. Now you can’t buy a car with a cassette player.

I recently purchased another turntable. This one has a USB cable so I can plug it into my computer.

I save the albums on the hard drive and then burn CDs from the hard drive.

Works pretty slick.

As a matter of fact, I’m doing it as I email you.

I’m so saddened by this news. Thanks for letting everyone know about the goodness and fun that Ken brought to our world! I literally just thought of him the other day when someone brought up our class reunion which will be next year!! What a huge loss! My prayers are with his family.

Don,

I am truly saddened to hear of Ken’s passing.

As a participant in the very heated Jefferson-PV rivalry in the late ’70s and early ’80s, I can say without question that Ken was a class act.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his immediate family, and his extended Falcon family.

n Dan, what a classy thing to do on your part. We had some fierce battles back in the day, but through it all, there was always a sense of mutual respect. — DM

Don,

Kenny and I were classmates way back in the early ’70s at State Road Elementary.

There was not one person who didn’t get along well with him and we were all really sad when he and his family moved. However, I would see him around town once in a while and it was as if he had never moved. He was always positive and complementary.

It saddens me to read of his death, but at least he had the chance to get one more run in as I know how much he loved working out.

My condolences to his family and friends.

Rest in peace, my friend!

Midget football

Don,

I have to say that there needs to be an apology to all the cheerleading squads who performed in between the games on Saturday.

The first sentence of the article Small in size, huge in heart was the most hurtful thing that could ever be said. The sentence reads, “It didn’t have a spectacular halftime show, although the one it did have was great for local cheerleaders.”

Seriously, these are girls that are between the ages of 7 and 12, and younger if the mascots performed. They work for months on these routines and for someone to say it wasn’t spectacular needs to be shot —THEY’RE KIDS!!!!

Not to mention that the fact that my daughter is a Steelers cheerleader and the people controlling the music completely goofed it up and they ended up having to do their routine to the wrong music.

This wasn’t the NFL Super Bowl and I think that there needs to be a follow up article about this — completely about the cheerleaders.

Thank You,

Lyndie Thompson

Don,

Real Football Dad: You cant be for real, or are you really a Badger coach? Let’s comment about the TRUTH.

There are 4 team in Ashtabula with 4 head coaches, all coaches go to draft in pick in order of the season, with that being said, the Jets had 4 and I repeat 4 draft picks while we all had anywhere from 10-18.If I remember correctly, the jets coaching staff picked 4 JV.

So in your messed comments how did the Jets stack their winning team? The reason for 4 draft picks is because all the jets kids come back each year, so your staement is false. Another thing, your badger team didnt sell the league fundraiser which in case you forgot you guys are apart of this league, we the coaches and board let you in. The league also had to purchase an enormous amount of helmets and shoulder pads and game jerseys for your 60 some players, the league paid for it you didnt.

All teams contribute to the concession stand and 50/50. You should get your facts correct before you comment. Another thing what about alcohol being drank at one of your home games at the goal post, and parents cursing at kids, and your coaches jumping up and down on a field like a poor sport, all the board knows of Badger’s behavior and believe it when its said it will be addressed and on notice at our next board meeting. Another thing there is NO instant replays in midget football badgers.

The city paints the lines on the field not the league. Talking about refs, didn’t your head coach get his own refs for in kinsman? We had refs from Cleveland, not from Ashtabula, so again your point is what??? If you speak, speak the truth, not a badger fairy tale. To make a comment about the last president could be considered slanderous, and that wasn’t even the truth.

You got a problem with our president call her, talk to her, she is the one person who will clean up and clean out this league.

The board members are behind her 100 percent. How were the playoff games decided, maybe ask your head coach, he knows all too well.

Don,

Badger Parent, the board of the AMFL voted on having 10 year olds on JV, since you are only 2 years into the league, the AMFL have always had 10 year olds on JV.Maybe you should check your facts or maybe your coaches didnt communicate the rule to you all, it also takes more than 1 player to make the team succesful. It is not a 9 year old team. The teams in Ashtabula go through a draft, we dont have the option to pick all the good players and put them on one team like your coaches can do.

AMFL Coach

(posted on starbeacon.com)

Don,

I can agree with “ Football Dad.“ ,I too, saw things that I didn’t like and there was definately a lot of ‘stacking’ going on. It is a shame when you take all of the worst kids in your league and put them on one team and ensure that the best end up on the team with the league president’s son. I mean why not? Why would you have teams where every kid has the chance to be a part of success? I didn’t like to see that. I also didn’t like seeing the following things: Coaches wearing their pants below their rear ends. Nobody bothering to take the time to paint lines on their field. Varsity players switching uniforms and playing JV games. Touchdowns 6ft from the goal line. Playoff and championship games being officiated by locals. Officials that don’t know the rules. ( Not all of the officials). Playoff games being decided before they start. Teams showing up an hour late for a game. Kids on the same team brawling during the game. Officials congratulating players of their local team on every play. It seems to me, given the history of theft and corruption in the AMFL, that a president would worry more about the image that they portray and less about making the Badger organization look like ‘whiners’. Is it bad that our kids have learned to acheive rather than cheat? Do you hear us whine when we raised more money for you than the rest of your teams combined? Do you here us whine when we bring more fans to your home games than you do? Do you here us whine when those fans spend money at your concessions? Do you hear any whining when fans buy raffle tickets at their own home games to give money to pay off the $14,000. stolen from the last moron that ran the league? I bet that whining goes away every Mon. when you’re standing in line at the bank.

First off, good job to both teams who made it to the superbowl! The Jets and the Braves should be proud for making it that far. Now let’s look at the facts and common sense: The Braves come from a little town just the same,if not smaller, as the Jets. Trust me,they do not recruit, because they could very well go to any other school to play football. The Braves do have a lot of players, not because of recruitment, but because of deprivation. Badger just started a football program and there is a lot of kids and parents whom are taking advantage of the new situation. It is true to teach kids that winning isn’t everything, but it is also true teach them excuses and blaming others when life doesn’t go as planned, isn’t right. Stacked team?-no, just a solid athlete; who is of age and goes to Badger. Once again, kudos to both teams; someone has to win and lose, that is the game.

Common Sense

(posted on starbeacon.com)

Don,

It is about the kids! I thought the game was very exciting. Unfortunately, there has to be a winner and a loser.. and the Braves have done both in the last two years.. And if true, I am very upset to hear that the Jett Coaches did not shake hands with the Braves Coaches at the end of the game. I hope the Ashtabula League addresses these Coaches for being unsportsmen like.

Don,

Well, Football Dad. I will start by sending a congrats to the boys who played on the Jets. A job well done to make it to the superbowl. As for you~how do you stack a team?? care to explain?? Is it by putting a 10 year old impact player on a 9 year old team??? I mean how much more impact can you have, then as QB? or perhaps we have been misinformed. Perhaps he is only 9? We have alot of interest from our kids in football. The majority of our kids only have 1-2 years experience playing the game. But they have played those two years well haven’t they??? You are all preaching respect on your comments. Practice what you preach!!! And last but not least we all know who the REAL champs are. Cant wait to see who gets the trophy next year! Good Job to all players. Very proud of all the Badger Braves. Players and cheerleaders.

What about the Badger Braves JV team winning their Superbowl 25-0? YOu want to talk about boys playing with heart. This was only their second year in the league and they went undefeated. But I forgot, they are not from Ashtabula. Regardless of where they are from, they deserve the same respect. They went out there and gave there all. After all this is supposed to be about the kids right.

As a parent I am surprised the Braves Jv team wasn’t given any credit. We are a new team and both years our JV has been to the superbowl and 2009 The Braves won 25-0, undefeated season! I believe the star beacon is a biased newspaper. No mention of the jv game mentioned. That is not just a slap in the face to the braves, being out of the county, but also to the jets, who are a home team. I would just like to put on here what a great game was played by the jv teams. Congratulations to the Badger Braves for an undefeated year, to the team, to the cheerleaders, and to all the coaching staff, and parents.

What a slap in the face to both JV teams. No mention of how the Braves had an undefeated season, or how hard the Jets tried to take that away. I would like to Congratulate both teams for making it to the Superbowl. But a special recognition to the BADGER BRAVES for winning the Superbowl! Also congratulations to the cheerleaders for all your hard work and support. To the coaching staff for all your dedication to the kids, and to the parents for being so supportive at all the games! BADGER BRAVES ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The news paper is the ones who write the articles. The coaches are the ones who give them the names and may add a few things about the players..The Varsity teams cant help it if they were in the paper and the Badger Braves we not.If your going to wine and cry about it then write an article and send it to the Star Beacon and ask them to put in it there for you.. You cant have everything. The Jets Jv werent in there either. But you will have that from time to time. IT IS FOR THE KIDS..

I’m very disappointed in the write-up i saw. The JV game between the the UNDEFEATED Badger Braves and the Ashtabula Jets, they weren’t even mentioned. Those boys played for a higher purpose that night. There was little to no mention about the ‘football for a cure’ attitude that those boys played for.CONGRATULATIONS JV BADGER-BRAVES FOR A STELLAR SEASON, JETS VARSITY IT WAS ONE FOR THE BOOKS!!!

All the teams that made it to the Super Bowl deserve praise. The Jets had both JV and Varsity, the Cowboys and the Badgers all made it to the Super Bowl Good Job. For the Badger parents to pick apart everything in the paper is WRONG. You don’t see the teams in this league pointing out all of the Badgers wrong doings at their games in Kinsman now do you? It goes to show who has class and respect and who doesn’t. To say something about our league President and her family is low and untrue. You should be ashamed of yourself.

WOW!!! are you kidding me! Where were you parents at last year after the J.V. superbowl? There was nothing written about the J.V. game then either. There was just a small clipping under a picture just like this year. How many Badger parents cried then????? You didnt hear anything from the Cowboys parents about it...they were too busy celebrating what their kids just accomplished. Let me get this straight...just because you had a perfect record(not season) you think you should get extra attention? Sorry but it dont always work that way. Last year, the Cowboys J.V. went 12-0 and didnt alow a single point(thats a perfect season!) and didnt get any extra attention and you didnt hear any complaining from them about not getting mentioned in the paper...SO WHAT...Is it really that important that your kids name is in the paper? As a parent, it is most important that you recognize your kids accomplishments...or is it that you want to see YOUR last name in the paper. You won the superbowl so be happy for the kids and let them enjoy it...After all, it is for the kids

Great job to all of the kids in the superbowl and to all the kids who played in the league who worked their butts off just so they could play the game.

I agree with Jets #1 mom.... These boys played with heart and had a bigger issue at hand was the fact that the varsity teams on their own decided to make the game worth more to them then just a title and a trophy and that too was overlooked. Those boys played for a higher purpose that night. There was little to no mention about the ‘FOOTBALL FOR A CURE’ attitude that those boys played for. These boys looked forward to wearing the pink socks that they had on, they asked if they could do it cause the NFL teams were. This ment alot to me a cancer suvivor to have a team that I am a team mom for want to do this.. I am so proud of both the Jets and Cowboys Varsity Teams.... It’s crazy how upset these parents are over the fact that there name is not in the paper. Your kids (win or lose) just played the biggest game of the season and instead of enjoying it your complaining. Maybe you should take that energy and focus it on your kids win! You can point fingers all that you would like but in the end the facts remain the same, the KIDS know what happened on that field as do the fans. Which is more important? To all players on the Cowboys and Jets, way to go. The pink sock that each of your wore ment more to someone than you will ever know!! THANKS and GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR!!

I sat on the bleachers for a total of 6 hours in the cold that night. I was there very early in case any help was needed. I seen Kim George run around there like a crazed woman trying to make sure everything was just right for the Superbowl!

I watched the JV game and was very surprised to see that those boys really knew what they were doing out there (both Badgers and Jets). It showed that the coaches did their job on teaching them the skills that were needed to play this game. But by the garbage that was posted below mine... they aren’t teaching these kids that it’s just a game and that it should be fun first and foremost.

I watched the Varsity game and again...what a great game. There were some exciting moments that were given by both teams. And then again... there were some very intense moments that were given by the adults.

I really can’t wait until next year.

Something everyone should remember is that these are kids playing... not the pros.

Just to make a little comment... Did anyone notice that KIM GEORGE was out on the field early for the JV game to give the BADGERS the trophy?? Did anyone notice the pink that was all around us both on and off the field? Did anyone notice how much work it takes to get all of this accomplished? Maybe instead of insulting people a nice THANK YOU is in order.

I know I would like to thank EVERYONE for a great Saturday! But could someone tell the weather man that the heat needs to be turned up for next year??

CONGRATULATIONS THE BADGERS (JV) and the JETS (V)!!! Jobs well done!!

I believe recognition, not for winning but the WAY you play th game, needs to come from us parents before we rely on publications. I am so proud of each and every player, coach and parent from te JETS Varsity and JV teams. Yes, Varsity JETS won the ‘09 AMFL Superbowl. But as stated below, worth more in mentioning is our dedication to playing for a cause. Our kids understood what it meant to play with heart and meaning. Our team took a knee before the game to say a prayer not only for victory, but for safety and sportmanship. And they joined arm in arm to show unity. That’s class. Our JV JETS ALWAYS play with heart. In our four years with the JETS, this was our first in the Superbowl. I am impressed with our JV team as well for their effort as for the WAY they handled their defeat. Not bad, for kids so young. My sons were thilled to just be there on such an AMAZING field. I hope that is something that they NEVER forget...not the win or the loss...but the moment they stepped on the field and their name was announced. Congratulations to all teams, parents and coaches who give extraordinary efforts to the game every year.

First, let me say publicly to anyone who has been offended at one of our home games, sorry. I am proud of our team, coaches and all associated. I appreciate the drive you all make to play at our home field, as we know the distance and time involved. We drive it frequently and I look forward to every game. I have personally witnessed poor sportsmanship from several teams. Some times its coming from the mouths of coaches. Sometimes from the mouths of the players. We can all get upset. Time to let it go. All the kids who played should be proud. Win or lose, they play. Rain or shine, they play. And I am proud of all of them. I am proud of our boys and the success they had this year. Good job to all teams. We will see who takes it next year!

Don,

I do not believe any of the Braves parents are upset that kids names were not in the paper. I think its the feeling that we were blatently ignored that upset people. It is the feeling that people want to deny the kids recognition they so richly deserve. I personally did not know the Beacon did any articles last season. If they did not print anything about the Cowboys JV team, thats too bad, because they were awesome last year. They deserved the praise. I do not believe we were being ‘nitpicky’ at the field either. A statement a head of an organization probably should not make. Everyone talks about how much ‘class and respect’ they have. I am not saying that is not true. Just saying I do not feel like that is what was shown to us. Especially when coaches do not shake the hands of the winning teams coaches. What is that teaching your kids?

We need to put this bickering behind us and put our focus where it belongs - on our boys. Both the Braves and the Jets had an amazing year and all this fighting just takes away from what they acclomplished. For this being only the second year for the Braves, to go undefeated and win the Super Bowl, wow! Braves we are so very proud of you. What you have brought to the community is truly remarkable. But also to the Jets players - they never gave up. They fought until the end. That was one of the best moments in my life watching my son and his teamplaying their hearts out against an amzing opponent - the Jets. Way to go teams. Both teams deserve respect and praise.

Come on parents let’s put this behind us - celebrate with the boys and then get ready for next year.

The parents are acting childish. The Paper did not recognize either jv team. They played as hard as the varsity, who had quite a write up. My child loves seeing things in the paper about friends or themselves. Something for the scrapbook. The parents are not complaining about the fact the the braves were not recognized, but the fact that neither team was recognized. Parents ruin the fun of the game for kids. Too bad! But read the comments left a little more carefully. There was only good things said about the jets. They deserve as much recognition as the braves. As far as stacking the team, grow up and accept defeat.

Don,

I am a coach but not on the Jets, there have been a lot of things said, so let me add my two cents. None of the teams in Ashtabula stack their teams, NONE, we can’t we have a draft, we dont get to take any kid that walks on the field for tryouts, so you badgers do indeed have the upper hand in picking your players, you dont have a draft do you?? The jets coaches are probably the most respected coaches along with others in this league, they always have been, they run a good program and should be commended for that and leave the league president out of it. Lets see, she may have watched what one or two games, the other times she was working concession, taking care of problems, looking at kids spikes for which your coaches thought kids had on screw in spikes which they didnt. What about your head coach yelling across the field he was going to punch another coach in the f-ing face, we all heard it on the sidelines and kids from both teams were on the field, wow upstanding, classy, and the league president should have kicked him out of the game. To be perfectly honest the league was set up in divisions, the badger division was the weak division, the other division was the strongest. So dont complain, you only had to play the cowboys, steelers and jets once and i think you tied the steelers then went in ot and only won by a point, the cowboys beat you bad and the jets beat you twice (once regular and once playoff), if you are going to comment please do it truthfully. This is about the kids, not what the paper did or didnt print. We had excellent coverage from the Star Beacon and we were able to watch and the super bowl teams play on the best football field around. Lakesides athletic director, board and superintendant we all thank you. It was a great night. Quit complaining this is for the kids not your over inflated egos.
