Softball Roundup: Softballers still going at it in fall ball


The Ohio Jaguars split a twinbill in fall ball play Sunday in Cortland.

The locals prevailed in the opener, 7-1, then suffered their first loss of the season in the nightcap, 6-3, against Ohio Blast.

In Game 1, Rachel Elizabeth Francis socked a homer, a triple and a double and scored three runs, while Emily Hicks smacked a homer and Katie Holmes (2 runs) and Amada Krause (2 RBI) also had big days.

Sara Urchek went the distance on the bump, allowing five hits, no earned runs and striking out seven.

In the second game, Hannah Marie Francis and Michealia Skleres each had two hits for the locals. Emily Westfall (4 IP, 2 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) absorbed the loss on the mound.

The Jaguars (8-1) will challenge Extreme Fastpitch in another doubleheader Sunday.



10U Jaguars

The Jaguars rode the strong arm of Madison Frederick to a 7-2 victory against the Willoughby Starzz on Sunday.

Frederick went the distance, allowing three hits, while fanning 14.

Emily DeGeorge led the way at the plate with two hits and three RBI, while Frederick drove in two runs and Angelica Sack crossed the plate twice.



Arsenal

The locals split a twinbill with Explosion, winning the nightcap, 7-3, after being limited to Haley Edixon’s fourth-inning double in the first game.

In Game 2, Hannah Kinney clobbered a triple, Alicia Major singled and Katy Reed made an outstanding backhanded catch in right field. Madi Geddes and Haley Azbill both scored twice for the Arsenal, who will play another doubleheader Sunday.
