Dragon smokes Pirates in Braves’ win

Dalton Dragon ripped a game-winning double among his three hits and drove in four runs to lead the Ashtabula Braves past the Ashtabula Pirates, 8-7, in minor league baseball action Tuesday.

Isiah Mathers and Michael Woody each doubled, while Justin Enos added a hit. Jim Strubbe led the Pirates with three hits, while Michael Coop had two hits and Calub Spring added a hit.

n Yankees 8, Tigers 7 — Josh Gibson smacked three hits to lead the Yankees, while Josh Hudson added two hits and Max Mitchell scored twice. Max Hammers, John Miller and Spencer Selman each had a hit for the Tigers.

n Kingsville Cubs 13, Kingsville Orioles 12 — Ethan Ward smacked two hits, including a double, and two RBI to lead the Cubs, while Jacob Huey doubled. Zack Erb added two hits and two runs and Dylan Fitchet scored three times.



Minor SB

Aaliyah Hunt smacked a grand slam to lead the Union Industrial Cubs past the Huntington Insurance Reds, 21-7. Madalyn Peggs added two hits, two RBI and three runs, while Paden Cochran had two hits and scored three times. Ariel Williams had a hit, drove in two runs and scored three times, while Taylor Gehring scored three times and drove in a run. Nicole Adams had a bases-clearing triple and Alyssa Hanna added a hit and two runs. Aryn Cochran scored three times and drove in one run. Sarena O’Handley led the Reds with two hits, an RBI and one run scored, while Emily Pudder had a hit, an RBI and a scored run. Bella Watts scored twice.

n Geneva Pirates 18, Kingsville Warriors 13 — Kallee Gersin led the Pirates with eight strikeouts and two hits, while Sierra Shortridge, Kayla Cerjan, Ariel Reece and Laken Anderson all added hits. Kate Nelson and Kelsey Hernandez each had three hits for the Warriors.



Major BB

Riley Dell blasted four hits, including three doubles, scored three runs and drove in three to lead the Sports & Sports Padres past the Renew Plastics Indians, 16-7. Zack Maldanado added three hits, including two doubles, and four RBI, while Jonathan Balcomb had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBI. Calvin Haines had three hits and three RBI. Tyler Vines led the Indians with four hits and three RBI, while Nick Brady added two hits and scored twice.

n Wychock Physical Therapy Athletics 19, Koski Construction Yankees 4 — Modesto LeBron smacked three hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs to lead the Athletics, while Kody Brown had three hits, including a double, and two RBI. Anthony Platt had two doubles and Juan Rodriquez added two hits, including a double, and three RBI. Chris Lucas smacked two hits and drove in three runs, while Noah Cogar had two hits, including a double. Sean Prine had two hits and Jordan Palinkas and Logan Sullivan each drove in three runs.

n Ashtabula Indians 17, Ashtabula Cardinals 1 — Kramer Getce blasted three hits and drove in four runs to lead the Indians in completing a perfect regular season. Noah Sams smacked three hits, including two doubles. Dave Rose homered and doubled. Jordan Isenberg had two hits, including a home run, for the Indians (15-0). Garrett Vaught and Zach Schlosser each had two hits. Andrew Estock, Derrick Matthews and Jay Moore each had hits for the Cardinals.



Junior BB

Mikey Teed ripped three hits, including a double, to lead the Conneaut A’s past Ashtabula No. 1, 12-8. Christian Williams added three hits, while Miles Kapen had two hits and Derek Frazee drove in two runs.

n Ashtabula Tigers 13, Kingsville Reds 1 — Daniel Luyando smacked two triples to lead the Tigers, while Austin DiBell had two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Reagan Potts added three RBI and Tony Shimek, Louie Wisnyai and Victor Tuttle each scored twice.



Junior SB

Tayler Kantola ripped the game-winning hit among her two hits to score Alexa Thome and lead Conneaut No. 2 past Ashtabula No. 1, 3-2, in the bottom of the seventh. Angie Zappitelli added two triples, a double and two RBI. Kantola struck out six and Zappitelli struck out seven in relief. Krista Johnson led Ashtabula with two doubles, while Gabriella Patete struck out nine on the mound.



Senior BB

Scott Thompson, Jacob Simek, Aaron Carlson and Rob Melina each had hits to lead the Conneaut Senior League past the Ashtabula Reds, 6-5. Nolan Potts and Russell Davis each had two hits for the Reds.



Major SB

Emily Riddell smacked two hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs to lead the Andover Bank Reds past the Java Net Cafe Angels, 16-15. Brianna Gaynor also had two hits. Noel Armstrong led the Angels with two hits, including a grand slam, and six RBI, while Tori Hunt had two RBI.

    In 1958, a mere 54 years ago, the Grand Valley High School and Ashtabula County boys basketball career scoring record belonged to Jim Dodd. The ACBF hall of famer scored 1,377 points in his career as a leading post player for the Mustangs.
