CC Roundup: Kreider victorious at Champion


Edgewood’s Mallory Kreider was the individual champion of the girls portion of Saturday’s Champion Invitational, winning in 18:57 to lead her team to a third-place finish.

SS. John and Paul’s Brittany DiMare also had a productive race as the only Herald runner. She finished fourth in the same race in 20:35

Conneaut finished seventh of 11 teams in the boys meet with 169 points. Chagrin Falls was the team champion with 39 points.

Casey Tagle was the top finisher for the Spartans by placing 15th in 18:41. Alex Williams placed 20th in 18:53, Tevin Colbert was 38th in 19:54, Zach Harper finished 47th in 20:32 and Ben Betteridge was 49th in 20:41.

Among other individuals in the boys meet, Geneva’s Andrew Avsec finished second in 17:13 and teammate Patrick Doherty placed fourth in 17:34.

The Conneaut girls finished 10th of 12 teams with 244 points. Salem was the champion with 30 points.

Jessica Oxley topped the Spartans by finishing 31st in 22:51. Leanne Banyas placed 38th in 23:25, Jessica Hively was 41st in 23:32, Leah Stamp was 66th in 26:08 and Kelly Gore finished 68th in 26:58.

Two Conneaut girls ran in the middle school race. Maria Perkio placed third in 14:43. Mackenzi Wheeler was 11th in 15:43.

Kyle Prevot led a group of three Conneaut runners in the boys middle school race by finishing 11th in 13:02. John Mannion placed 34th in 16:50 and Dillon Griswald was 36th in 16:58.

Also in the boys junior high race, SS. John and Paul’s Steven Houser finished 17th in 13:59.



Tiffin Invitational

A 52nd place by Richard Palo paced Pymatuning Valley’s efforts in the Tiffin Cross Country Invitational.

Palo, who was timed in 17:29 to led the Laker boys to a 32nd place finish in the 45-team field in the Division III-A boys portion of the meet. The PV boys finished with 814 points. Bellaire St. John Central was the champion with 134 points.

Following Palo for the Lakers were Kyle Eastlake in 150th in 18:47, Tyler Gruskiewicz in 188th place in 19:28, Hunter Hamilton in 198th place in 19:34 and Marcus Cunningham in 228th in 20:03.

The PV girls finished 32nd of 53 teams in Division III with 862 points, led by state-meet veteran Samantha Turner, who was 106th in 22:09. Minster was the Division III girls champion with 60 points.

Other Laker girls who figured in the scoring were Felicia Morrison in 140th in 22:44, Ami Turner in 202nd in 23:48, Lexis Cunningham in 217th in 24:01 and Vanessa Thompson in 218th in 24:02.

Two PV girls and one PV boy ran in the open divisions of the meet. Colleen Wonderling finished 242nd in 28:55 and Becky Jordan was 280th in 34:13 in their race. Allen Bates finished 120th in the boys open race in 23:07.
