Roundup: Eagles outfly Falcons on links


Brad Nicholson tallied a 40 on the par-36 back nine at Hickory Grove as Geneva downed Jefferson, 166-189 in the Northeastern Conference opener for both teams Thursday.

Michael Schubert (41) and Derek Kovach (42) also finished ahead of the Falcons’ leader for the Eagles (3-3, 2-0).

Jared Jacobs netted a 43 to lead Jefferson (0-1, 0-1).

n Pymatuning Valley 170, Bristol 204 — Jon York paced the Lakers (5-1, 4-0) with a 41 on the par-35 Andover Golf Course and Mac Thurber came in with a 42 in Northeastern Athletic Conference play. Frank Boggs added a 43 for PV.

n Independence 175, Grand Valley 226 — Aaron Humensy carded a 47 and Mike Glause added a 56 on the par-35 front nine at at Astirhurst to lead the Mustangs (0-2, 0-2 in Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division).



Girls golf

n Lakeside 213, Conneaut 242 — Krista Johnston fired a 45, Stephanie Winters added a 51 and Tiffani Park finished with a 53 on the par-36 back nine at Windy Hill for Lakeside (4-0). Kelsey Weske led the Spartans (2-2) with a 51 and Laina Iarocci added a 52.

n SS. John and Paul 234, North 283 — Nicole Gallo and Liz Shouvlin each netted a 58 on the par-36 front nine at Harbor Golf Club to lead the Heralds (2-5).

n South 165, Shaker Heights 196, Edgewood 203, PV 233 — Yeram Kang (46) and Maggie Nanney (49) each finished the par-35 front nine under 50 and Erin McNeil and Amber Zalimeni each added a 54 for the Warriors (5-4).

Ariel Stech tallied a 55, Shelby Baker added a 57 and Dana Hayford shot a 58 for the Lakers (2-9).



Boys soccer

n Chardon 6, Geneva 0 — Chad Johnston scored twice and had two assists, A.J. Roderick scored two goals and Rory Duncan scored a goal and added two assists for the Hilltoppers. Kyle O’Dell had 10 saves and Garrett Winchell added two for the Eagles (0-1-1).



JV boys soccer

n Geneva 7, Chardon 1 — Hugo Reyes netted three goals and assisted on another to pace the Eagles (2-0).
