Four golfers with rounds in the 40s carried the Edgewood girls golf team to a pair of non-conference victories Wednesday.
Yeram Kang led the Warriors with a 45 on the way to a 185. SS. John and Paul turned in a 226 and North fired a 232.
Supporting Kang were Amanda Hardy and Amber Zalimeni with a pair of 46s and Amanda Hardy with a 48 for the Warriors (4-2). Nicole Gallo led SJP with a 52, while Liz Shouvlin fired a 56 and Ciara Johnson carded a 57.
n Jefferson 213, Pymatuning Valley 250 — All four of the Falcon scorers shot better or equal to the Lakers’ second scorer. Shelly Ford led Jefferson (4-2) with a 40, while Joanne Beckwith had a 51 and Brianne Bodisch and Christen Lucas each shot a 61. Dana Hayford topped PV (2-6) with a 57, while Kaitlyn Hootman had a 61.
n Geneva 207, Shaker Heights 214 — The Eagles got their four scorers in ahead of the third shooter for the Raiders. Nicole Lara led Geneva (3-0) with a 44, while Lindsey Adams shot a 51 and Carlin Kern and Alissa Wortman each had a 56. Caitlin Kempton led Shaker Heights with a two-over-par 37 over the front nine at Geneva-on-the-Lake Golf Course.
Boys golf
Three of Madison’s four scorers finished ahead of Geneva’s first two golfers in a 325-337 non-conference victory. Zach Fedele led the Blue Streaks (2-1) with a 78, while J.W. Leitch added an 80 and Aaron Whitely fired an 81. Derek Kovach and Michael Schubert paced Geneva (2-3, 1-0 Northeastern Conference) with a pair of 83s.
n Pymatuning Valley 174, Badger 182 — The Lakers had better or equal scorers from their four that counted before the Braves’ third man posted his score in the Northeastern Athletic Conference match. Adam Lane topped PV (4-1, 3-0) with a 41, while Mac Thurber had a 42, Jon York fired a 45 and Frank Boggs had a 46.
Tennis
A forfeit victory at second doubles for Nikki Brooks and Megan Callahan gave Conneaut a 3-2 victory in Northeastern Conference play. Alexandra Nardo’s 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) win at third singles, a match that lasted three hours, supplemented Megan Merlene’s 6-2, 6-0 decision at second singles for Conneaut in its season opener. The two wins for Harvey (0-3, 0-3) came from Lakeisha Ferguson at first singles with a 6-1, 6-0 decision and a 6-2, 6-1 victory at first doubles by Brittany Anderson and Lindsey Oras.
n Riverside 5, Lakeside 0 — Despite battles in the two doubles matches, the Beavers earned a sweep of the Dragons in the PAC opener for both teams. At second doubles, Gwen Petrasko and Maggie Dotts of Riverside (1-1, 1-0) outlasted Shelby DeCamillo and Taylor Palmer of Lakeside (1-4, 0-1), 7-6 (10-8), 6-4, while Chelsea Petrasko and Shelby Sharpnack were 7-5, 6-3 winners at first doubles over Sam Reho and Lisa Roane. Paulina Kauzljar was the most impressive winner for Riverside with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at first singles.
n Perry 5, Aurora 0 — The Pirates swept their Chagrin Valley Conference Chagrin Division rivals with the loss of only 13 games. The easiest wins for Perry were a 6-0, 6-1 victory by Laura Teigeler at second singles and a 6-0, 6-1 decision by Abbey Hilborn and Alex Nichols at second doubles. Olivia Woycheck-Wright at third singles took a 6-1, 6-3 win and Nicole Hogan and Cassie Rideout at first doubles were 6-4, 6-0 winners.
Girls soccer
Emmy Stowell scored twice and Mattie Stowell scored once and assisted on one of Emmy’s goals in Lakeside’s 3-0 non-conference win over Euclid. Keiko Sand had two saves for Lakeside (1-1).
n Riverside 3, Brush 1 — Riverside spotted Brush the opening goal, then did the rest of the scoring in a non-conference victory over the Arcs. Becky Mielnik scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the Beavers (1-1), while Sammy Ruth and Megan Hazel also scored goals. Deanna Gundling stopped 12 shots in goal for Riverside.
Junior high boys golf
Anthony DeGeorge’s 41 powered Lakeside to a 202-237 win over SS. John and Paul. Adam Suckle added a 46, Colton Makina had a 55, Ralph Ortiz fired a 60 and Jamie Verno had a 68 for the Dragons. Ryan Nappi led SJP with a 46.

Riverside sneaks past Edgewood
Riverside wrestling coach Scott Blank learned a good deal of what he knows from Edgewood coach Greg Stolfer as a former Warrior great. Thursday, he used a bit of that knowledge to get the better of his old coach as the Beavers bested the Warriors, 31-28, at Edgewood.

Madison recovered from coming out on the short end of a pin in the first match of the night by taking six of the next seven matches against Geneva and capped the night with pins from their last pair of grapplers in dismantling the Eagles, 49-17.

In their last home game of the season, the Grand Valley Mustangs rose to the occasion on Senior Night, defeating the SS. John and Paul Heralds, 59-28.

Paige Clark led an attack that saw three Jefferson players reach double figures and Rachel Francis had a triple-double as the Falcons blasted visiting Liberty, 59-17, in an All-American Conference game Thursday night in Falcon Gym.

PV prevails
Cody Miller and Zach Campbell knew what they had to do in order for the Pymatuning Valley wrestling team to complete a come-from-behind victory over Jefferson on Wednesday at triangular match at PV.
The pair delivered exactly that and the Lakers pulled off the win, 37-36. -
Eagles bounce back
The Geneva girls didn’t have much time to regroup. But just one day after a heartbreaking defeat, they were able to knock off a strong Perry team on the road, 39-33.
