The Grand Valley Mustangs cross country team invaded Cardinal for the Cardinal Invitational and came away with the a strong showing as the boys finished third and the girls, eighth.
The boys were paced by freshman Alex Marsch, who placed 14th with a time of 18:27.
Following him was senior Tyler Castle in 23rd (18:57). Junior Ian Naggy ran a 19:43 which was good enough for 32nd place.
Another freshman, Craig Anderson, placed 39th with a time of 20:05. Junior Robbie Dorhn rounded out the Mustangs lineup with a place of 48th after running a 20:29.
Independence dominated the field in the event, finishing first with 38 points while Southeast placed second with 53. Grand Valley tallied 124 points in finishing third in the 13-team event.
On the girls side, the Mustangs placed eight, but freshman Jessica Finley turned in an outstanding individual performance as she finished fifth overall with a time of 21:20.
Fellow freshman Hannah Gage finished 45th with a 25:09 and she was followed closely by Tylor Whitley who finished in 46th (25:11).
Freshman Lauren Harrison ran a 27:03 while senior Kayla Sellitto finished with a 29:35 to round out the GV lineup.
Garfield won the event with 46 points, followed closely by Southest with 53.
The Mustangs finished with 175 points.
Niles Invitational
The Jefferson boys finished second with 43 points. Howland took home the title with just 19 points.
Matt Kantor was third for the Falcons in 17:24, Brandon Scribben was sixth in 17:56, Steven Houser was ninth in 18:25, Andy Picard was 11th in 18:39 and Paul Bogdan was 15th in 19:02.
