Junior High Roundup: Eagles put a D in Geneva


Defense was the word for the Geneva eighth-grade girls as the Eagles played ferociously on that end of the court for the game’s final 15 seconds to hold off homestanding South, 27-26, on Wednesday, then turned around and held on at the end to withstand a Chardon flurry to record a 22-20 win Thursday.

Emily Ball’s seven points led the way for Geneva against South, then had the same Thursday against Chardon.

The Eagles (4-2) will host Riverside on Monday.

n SJP 28, Braden 16 — Emily Powers scored eight points and Makenzie Stenroos and Rae Ann Benedict each added six as the SS. John and Paul combined junior-high squad knocked off Braden.

Kayla Gonzalez and Courtney Humphrey led the Bulldogs with six points each.

The Heralds are now 9-1 on the season.



Seventh girls

n South 30, Geneva 17 — Rachel Harrington led the way for the Eagles with five points Wednesday.

n Chardon 34, Geneva 22 — Harrington’s six points paced the Eagles (2-4), while Rachel Tusick led the Hilltoppers with a game-high 12 on Thursday.
