The senior basketball players in the Star Beacon’s coverage area hit the hardwood one final time on Monday at Lakeside high school for the Star Beacon-Ed Batanian Senior Classic.
The boys game will tip off 15 minutes after the girls contest, which tips at 6 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on WFUN.
Team Zeus will be led by Edgewood coach John Bowler and will feature three Warriors Andrew Konczal, Louie Wisnyai and Dylan McCaleb.
Pymatuning Valley’s Tim Cross, who received the highest honor of any area player when he was named to the Division III first team all-district, will join them.
Also on Team Zeus will be Conneaut teammates Bud Ritari and Michael Mirando.
Representing Perry will be teammates Cale Burdyshaw and Ryan Zaletel.
Rounding out the team will be Lakeside’s Jerel Lower and Oder Ajanu, Riverside’s Adam Hockman, Geneva’s Eric Juncker and Grand Valley’s Kyle Orgovan. Madison’s Brandon Smith will be the lone represent for the Blue Streaks on the team
Team Apollo will be coached by Conneaut coach Tim Tallbacka and will feature two Conneaut players in Christian Williams and Nick Blood.
Also on Team Apollo will be Pymatuning Valley twins Austin and Grant Nowakowski. Geneva teammates Vern Thompson and David Smalley will also play for Team Apollo. There will also be a pair of Jefferson Falcons on the team in teammates Brett Powers and Troy Bloom.
Joining them on Team Apollo will be Lakeside’s Emonte Parks, Sayvaughn Morgan and Chad McAfee.
Finishing out Team Apollo will be Grand River Academy’s Houston Dugan, Grand Valley’s Stanley Sirrine, Riverside’s Chandler Smith, Perry’s Ian Illig and Mike Mahoney of St. John.
The cost of admission for Monday’s game is $5 and $4 for senior citizens. There will be a 3-point contest at halftime of the game.
