18U Jaguars put sting to Valley Sting

The Ohio Jaguars continued to steamroll the opposition in 18U fall play Sunday in Cortland.

The locals swept a pair of games from Valley Sting, winning the opener, 4-1, and the nightcap, 3-1.

Sara Urchek worked both ends on the bump, going five innings in Game 1 (4 hits, 0 ER, 5 K, 1 BB) and four in Game 2 (4 hits, 1 ER, 7 K, 1 BB).

Kelsey Prevot belted two doubles, scored three times and drew a walk to lead the offense in the first game, while Kate Thompson smacked two hits and drove in a run.

Rachel Elizabeth Francis spanked two hits in the second game, including a triple, drove in a run, scored another and coaxed a base on balls. Prevot added another knock, her third of the day.

The Jaguars (7-0) will take on the Monarchs on Sunday at 3:40 p.m. at Willow Park in Cortland.

It would seem only fitting that the first foray onto the turf for the 2010 season for the Ohio State Buckeyes football team would be billed, “The Shootout at Ohio Stadium.”

Mitchel Hokavar has been a key component of the Perry Pirates football team for two seasons already. If his performance in Game 1 of the 2010 season is any indication, he’s doing a fine job of playing a game of Can You Top This? with himself.
