Jay Moore rushed for 42 yards and scored the game’s only touchdown in the second overtime Saturday in Ashtabula Midget Football League action at Smith Field as the Browns varsity earned their first win of the season with a 6-0 decision over the Redskins.
Anthony Figueroa had 21 yards passing, including a 15-yard connection with Matthew Sanders. Austin Hall led the defense for the Browns with 12 tackles, including two quarterback sacks, and a fumble recovery. Romeo Aponte added five tackles.
Rashad Wells ran for 60 yards, while Robert Walker and Terrance Williams each ran for 30 yards and Kyle McAfee added 20 yards for the Redskins. Cody Smith led the defense with five tackles, including three for losses, Troy Tomchalk had a tackle for loss among two total and recovered a fumble and Daniel Bragg, Ryan Rivera and Terrance Williams also had two tackles each.
n Jets varsity 21, Steelers 0 — A 238-yard rushing performance powered the Jets to victory. Modesto Lebron racked up 110 yards on the ground, while Cale Sousa ran for 57 yards and a touchdown, Ryan Faulkerson piled up 41 more yards and a score and Jordan Walker rang up 30 yards and also scored. Joseph Ortiz scored a two-point conversion. The Jets’ shutout was paced by Zach Mariotti with five tackles and two sacks, Sam Percasik with three tackles and a sack, Faulkerson and Lebron with two tackles and an interception each and Sousa, Ryan Matthews, Jared and Ryan Robar and Austin Sturgill all had two tackles apiece. Leading rusher for the Steelers was Zach Maldonado with 60 yards, while Johnny Evans topped the defense with six tackles, Caleb Garcia, DeVonte Norman, Deonte Rogers and Maldonado each had three tackles and Michael Coup, Markale McKinney and Zach Thomas all had two tackles.
n Cowboys varsity 20, Kinsman Braves 0 — Curtis Jordan, Austin Kinter and J.T. Willis all scored touchdowns and Kaleb Saxon kicked to two extra points for the Cowboys. Gary Baker, Justin Swinger, Jordan and Willis led the Cowboys’ defense.
n Redskins JV 12, Browns 2 — Trevon Archer scored two touchdowns, Zamon Haywood ran for 40 yards and had two sacks and Andrew Kangas also had two sacks for the Redskins JVs. Twenty-nine rushing yards from Savion Keyes, 27 more from Trevion Gunter and Danny Osterberg with 19 more yards topped the Browns. Gunter also led the defense with four tackles, including two quarterback sacks, while the defense also produced a safety.
n Jets JV 14, Steelers 6 — Isaaha Parks ran for 124 yards and a touchdown and Logan George ran for 82 yards and the other score for the Jets. Jason Faulkerson also supplied 42 rushing yards. Anthony Carducci led the defense with three tackles and two sacks, Derek Elrod had four tackles with a sack, David Cumberledge forced a safety and had a tackle and Parker Meaney, Kyle Curtis, Parks, Faulkerson all had three tackles and Zeke Mariotti and George added two more each for the Jets.
n Kinsman Braves JVs 19, Cowboys 0 — Despite their loss, Noah Campbell, Kevin Kovach, Sam Stritch and Gage Willis led the defense for the Cowboys.
Geneva
Joshua Goerndt caught a 55-yard pass from Seth Scoville in the second quarter for the only score in Geneva’s 6-0 victory over Madison. Running backs Michael Hennessey and Kevin Allen also had productive days behind solid line play. Travis Cross, John Doerge, Clayton Rogan and Vincent Varckette led the defense for the Cowboys.
