Scully Match Friday


The area’s senior wrestlers will have one last chance to put their skills on display Friday when they participate in the 12th annual Star Beacon-Mike Scully Senior Wrestling Classic at Lakeside High School..

The match will begin at 6 p.m. Wrestlers from virtually every school in the Star Beacon coverage area will be participating. Among the participants will be Ashtabula County’s two state-tournament placers — Edgewood’s Thomas Butryn, who finished sixth at 125 pounds in Division II, and Conneaut’s Patrick Sanford, who was seventh at 215 pounds in Division II.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and students. No passes will be accepted.

Wrestlers from Lake County schools will be coached by Madison’s Ryan Wirtzberger, who had the area’s only other state placer, freshman Nick Montgomery, who placed seventh at 103 pounds in Division I. Ashtabula County wrestlers will be coached by Edgewood’s Greg Stolfer, completing his 25th season with the Warriors, and Pymatuning Valley’s Kevin Brown, who is completing his 12th season with the Lakers.
