Eagles head all-county squad

For the second-consecutive year, the Geneva Eagles dominate the Star Beacon’s All-Ashtabula County girls golf team.

The Eagles advanced to the district tournament for the second time in as many years and finished just seven shots short of advancing to the state tournament at Ohio State University’s Gray Course.

Coach Rob DiPofi garnered the Star Beacon’s Ashtabula County Coach of the Year honors for the second-straight year.

Geneva sophomore Danielle Nicholson was named Ashtabula County Player of the Year for the second time in her two years of high school eligibility.

Nicholson won the Division I state championship as a freshman and reached the tournament again this season, finishing ninth.

Joining Nicholson on the all-county team are senior teammates Cami Dodge, Nicole Grimmett and Megan Lara in addition to Eagle sophomore Abbey Scoville.

Lakeside and St. John tied for the second most players on the teams, each having two.

Leading the Heralds are senior Alicia Lewis followed by freshman Gillian DiPofi.

For Lakeside, Lyndsey Wheeler made the team in her last shot as she’s a senior. Promising freshman talent Toni Stranman joined her Dragons teammate.

Senior Jenny Howell is the lone player from Edgewood to make the team.

Rounding out the selections is Conneaut senior Lauren Kardohely.
