It took some extra work to accomplish it, but SS. John’s and Paul’s boys basketball team earned its first victory Saturday by outlasting Andrews in overtime, 48-45.
SJP (1-10) built a 10-7 lead after the first quarter and had a 17-13 edge at halftime. Andrews tied the game at 30 after three quarters and regulation finished at 40-all before SJP prevailed in overtime.
Balanced scoring carried the Heralds. Ralph Pugliese paced SJP with 17 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Leo Orlando contributed 11 points, including two more 3-pointers and also grabbed eight rebounds. Alex Iarocci added 10 points.
n Harvey 52, Riverside 40 — A strong first half carried the Red Raiders to victory in the battle of crosstown rivals. Harvey had a 10-2 lead after the first quarter and held a 23-11 edge at halftime, then kept that advantage from there. Adrian Wooten led Harvey with 14 points. Chris Jefferies topped Riverside (4-11, 4-6 in the Premier Athletic Conference) with 17 points.
